GenAI Product Strategy

Addressing enterprise AI product development strategy. UX Strategy | Product Strategy | Workshop Facilitation | UX Research

Corporations are at a flux point with how AI is treated at work for its employees. My project with an Enterprise Generative AI Transformation Board facilitated the internal Chat GPT Product development team’s understanding of who they are building genAI products for, clarifying assumptions and truths about their personas, and I delivered a UX Research protocol for future product development and improvement. My efforts are responsible for improving the Enterprise’s product development and research process for GenAI products that affect over 100,000 employee users.

This project was on a short timeline of 2 months with a minimal budget to work with. To be most effective, I was intentional about doing the most impactful work to ensure the product's success and accelerated development sprint timelines with my results.

Project Background

This Enterprise’s Generative AI Transformation Board has been responsible for understanding how AI should be treated at the workplace. For this project, myself and one other internal consultant were contracted for a two month project to evaluate the Internal ChatGPT product with a focus on User Experience and Change.

My responsibility for this project was the facilitation of UX focused workshops with a small team of six decision makers, developers, and designers in the IT division. These stakeholders were responsible for building and the continual improvement of the internal ChatGPT tool. While I was responsible for the UX and Product lens of this project, I collaborated closely with my colleague who is a Change Agent that focused on community building efforts and developing a communication plan for all product updates.

Tactical Working Sessions

As consultants, our strategy was to efficiently use minimal meetings and workshops for decision making. This was because our stakeholders were incredibly busy due to being a range of levels from  IT Vice Presidents down to Individual Contributors. Because of this, we had to coordinate our workshop agendas to ensure that both of our information needs were met with minimal time asked of the stakeholders.

Before each workshop I facilitated, I was responsible for creating the agenda and making recommendations for all decisions so that I could efficiently guide the stakeholders through weighing pros and cons, allow them to ask questions, make decisions and clarify future deliverables. Our team’s approach was greatly appreciated by our stakeholders who praised the format for prioritizing their other responsibilities while balancing the need to understand our work and empower quick progress to meet their deadline.

The Impact

The outcome of this project was that within two months I was able to facilitate four UX focused workshops with the GenAI Transformation Board and:

1. Identified a clear persona priority hierarchy based on current user numbers

2. Identified a clear persona priority hierarchy based on current user numbers

3. Identified gaps in the team’s knowledge of their priority persona: Software Engineers

4. Analyzed the currently available GenAI Personas used by IT for out of date and missing information

5. Assisted the IT UX Team with analyzing their GenAI survey which was sent to over 6,000 employees

6. Updated the IT Software Engineer Persona based on the newest UX Research I analyzed

7. Delivered a Research Plan for what qualitative and quantitative feedback to collect for assessing future feature additions and product usability. I also highlighted possible product issues for non-priority personas such as Hardware Engineers or Non-Technical employees and suggested how to expand research efforts in order to address these issues

8. Reduced development timelines by 2+ sprints

9. Aligned cross-enterprise Vice Presidents on the Generative AI Transformation board with the product growth strategy

My work was intentionally done to be efficient and effective on a small budget and short time frame  while still creating a large impact and increasing knowledge about UX and how impactful our work is when creating amazing products.
